Ferrari’s LaFerrari FXX K photos and details revealed

So Ferrari have just unveiled their highly anticipated LaFerrari FXX-K and it hasn’t disappointed!

The FXX-K is the latest creation from Ferrari’s XX programme, where they take their humble ordinary road cars (in this case the LaFerrari) and turn it into a hardcore track thoroughbred where pre-selected clients from Ferrari dealers can drive them at exclusive Ferrari track days hosted around the world, they are not road legal. These elite customers are then asked to feedback data and telemetry to help develop future models as it did with the 599 XX and FXX before it.

So what’s all the fuss about?

Just like the road going LaFerrari, the FXX-K has a 6.3-litre V12 paired with an electric motor and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. But that’s where the similarities end as the FXX-K power output has now increased from 950 bhp to 1,036 bhp and the car features a revised extreme aerodynamic package, brand new camshafts, intake manifolds, modified valve train and exhaust system.

What does the FXX K look like?

The body changes of the car have been made to improve efficiency and this starts at the very front of the car, where it boasts a twin-profile spoiler and splitter. This idea can be tracked back to the developments that Ferrari made to improve aero balance in its GT racing team in the World Endurance Championships, a competition that Ferrari has won three years in a row with the 458 Italia.

The back end of the LaFerrari FXX-K now has a spoiler that can extend further and reach 60 mm when deployed. The intricately designed small wings and vertical fins on each side of the rear are all part of the car’s highly effective downforce generation and aero balance concepts inspired by Ferrari’s previous racing cars.

The new design means the car is boosted by a 50 per cent downforce improvement in the low drag configuration, as well as a 30 per cent improvement in downforce configuration. All in all, this results in around 1,190 lbs of downforce at 124 mph.

What’s the cost of such a specimen?

Although Ferrari has not officially revealed how much it will cost to buy the LaFerrari FXX-K, there are clues, such as McLaren charging around £2 million for its P1 GTR model and Ferrari’s very own Enzo based FXX costing €1.3 million (plus local taxes).

The closest motoring fans will be able to get to the car this year will be at its debut at the Finali Mondiali event, which is taking place at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit this week. The car will be one of the main attractions at the event that celebrates the end of the motorsport season for Ferrari.
