Mercedes CL-Class bites the dust as S-Class expands it’s range
With the brand new Mercedes S-Class landing in UK showrooms very soon we take a look at how Mercedes intend to expand the range in the coming years in order to replace not only the Maybach but also the CL-Class altogether. The S-Class was revealed at last month’s Frankfurt Motor Show with a member of the Management Board of Mercedes-Benz Cars already claiming that they have created ‘an automotive masterpiece’, the excitement at Frankfurt looks not to be without merit.
Mercedes have also revealed that they will be launching up to six different variations of the model, including the Pullman. Although Pullman editions have been seen from the brand before, they have never yet been released in the UK. The stretched version of the car is expected to go on sale in 2015 and feature six seats, and is said to be inspired by the luxury associated with the lavish railway carriages of America’s Pullman Company. The exclusive model is set to cater for those missing the Maybach range that was discontinued by the company in 2011, and will feature longer rear doors, along with all the benefits that the 2014 S-Class‘ innovative technology already brings with it as standard.
On the other end of the style spectrum, the S-Class Coupe Concept is the other model in the upcoming range to ramp up the anticipation after its showcase at Frankfurt. Presenting a sportier feel than that of the luxurious, limo-effect of the Pullman, the coupe sports a fluid roofline and rear-end that marks a clear break from the current design of Mercedes. Featuring a twin-turbo V8 engine producing 455-hp, it will be seen as the replacement for the CL-Class and rival similar competitors such as the BMW 6 series and Maserati Quattroporte.
With reviews coming in of a smooth yet powerful engine with which you would be hard pressed to hear wind noise even at high speeds, the S-Class is hotly anticipated and at Romans in particular we are most looking forward to the new Pullman which will no doubt set a new benchmark of luxury.
