Mercedes GL63 is the latest to get the AMG treatment

The AMG line-up is now complete as the biggest luxury car in Mercedes line-up the GL63 has been given the performance boosting AMG engine and now sits as the ultimate 4×4 that Mercedes dealers can offer. Mercedes recently revealed both the G63 off-roader G-Wagon which sits as the more rugged 4×4 and mid-sized SUV the ML63 but the GL63 AMG is all about taking it to the next level of refinement and luxury.

Gone is the 6.2L V8 which is replaced by the 5.5L twin-turbocharged V8 that Mercedes seems to be favouring for AMG models currently. With 557bhp and a 0-62 under 5 seconds it’s right up there with the most powerful 4x4s on the market. An AMG-tuned 7 speed automatic gearbox with stop-start will drive all 4 wheels with fuel consumption said to be around 22mpg whilst top speed will be electronically limited to 155mph.

An ‘active curve system’ has been fitted to emphasize it’s sporty nature to help minimize bodyroll and improve handling. AMG Ride Control air suspension which comes as standard will add to the sporty taste. 21″ alloys and a whole host of AMG tweaks and the latest Mercedes technology will ensure that this will be the very best SUV that Mercedes offers hoping to be at the forefront of the vastly expanding 4×4 market competing with the likes of the Range Rover and Porsche Cayenne.
