The 10 Best Things About the Rolls-Royce Cullinan
The Rolls Royce Cullinan is the most expensive SUV in the world and here are the 10 best things about it!
Tenth on our list is the vin plate. This is a throwback to some of the early Rolls-Royces which used to have a VIN plate that is a mark of authenticity, provenance and a real throwback to the early days of Rolls-Royce. It’s also a reminder that each Cullinan is hand built in Goodwood, not very far from Romans International.
#9 Panoramic Roof
The panoramic roof or as Rolls-Royce call it, the ‘Panorama Glass Sunroof’; though it’s a standard option on most SUVs, on the Cullinan it opens a lot wider than we’ve seen before which makes it a fantastic feature. It goes a lot further back than most SUV’s panoramic roofs, with a lot of air coming into the cabin which gives the sensation of being in a convertible.
The tailgate and rear boot compartment is one of the reasons why you would choose a Cullinan over the Phantom as you get the added benefit of extra luggage space. It opens much like a Range Rover with a split tailgate and you can lower the rear seats from two buttons positioned either side of the boot. In addition, you can raise the lower load space so it sits exactly flush, thus you can put larger items in the back. To open the tailgate, you press a button on top of the tailgate and once it’s opened, you notice another compartment on the edge of the boot floor. Once opened, you can store your rifles or any other large items you wish. Finally, as a dealer fit option, you can spec electrically deployable chairs which includes two chairs and a small deployable cocktail table.
#7 Off-Road Button
An off-road button in a Rolls-Royce? Well, the thought of having an off-road Rolls-Royce a few years ago was ludicrous and it’s debatable how many Cullinan owners are going to take them off-road. However, what we like about it is the simplicity of it. Just one button and Rolls-Royce will do the rest. This is the first Rolls-Royce to have a four-wheel drive system and the first time we have a Rolls-Royce you can take anywhere!
Sixth on our list is the rear theatre configuration. Whilst the Phantom is a chauffeur car; the Cullinan is the best of both worlds being a family car and a chauffeur car. Whether it’s the kids or you in the back; you definitely need to make use of the rear theatre configuration. Press the button on the right-hand side and the picnic table deploys and then press the button on the left hand side and the screen automatically deploys. The screen has a lot of features including the ability to make phone calls, select a destination for the driver, music or TV program you would like to watch.
#5 V12 Engine
It’s very rare to find a V12 engine in an SUV. The Cullinan’s rivals have got V8 engines including the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Lamborghini Urus and the Range Rover 5.0 SVAutobiography Dynamic. The Bentayga comes with a W12 but the Cullinan is the only V12 SUV. It’s twin-turbo engine is the same power plant as in the Phantom and for a big car the Cullinan is extraordinarily fast. With 563 bhp, a top speed of 155 mph, the Cullinan accelerates from 0-62 mph in just 5.3 seconds. It’s not as fast as a Lamborghini Urus, but it’s how it delivers this power in such an effortless way. One thing’s for sure, if you have a V12 engine in your SUV, you know you’re the daddy!
The Cullinan certainly has the best infotainment system we have come across as there is so much you can configure. Firstly, an essential part before you start or end your journey is making sure you raise and lower the Spirit of Ecstasy. This can be done with a few button clicks through the infotainment system. Secondly, you can configure different climate settings, so not only do you have heated and ventilated seats; you also have heated armrests. This includes the central armrests and rear passenger side armrests which you can heat at your convenience.Other features include the Auxiliary Ventilation. So for example, if you are leaving for the airport one day at a set time, you can set the cabin to be at a cool temperature when you leave. Next is the parking features which includes a 3D panoramic view that allows you to see exactly where you are parking and what’s around the car, so there is absolutely no excuses to be curbing the wheels. There are too many features to list but you can use the digital owners handbook to go through all the different features. It gives you a 3D animation of exactly how that feature works. Finally, the Cullinan comes with fantastic massage seats. There are 8 different types of massage, 3 different intensity settings and 24 different massage modes.
#3 Ride Quality
Number 3 on our list is the ride quality. The first thing you notice is the driving position, which is one of the main reasons you buy a Cullinan over a Phantom. You have a much higher driving position and it makes you feel much more commanding on the road. Following this you notice the quietness of the cabin. The Cullinan has 100 kg worth of sound deadening equipment, double thick glass, foam filled tyres so you can barely hear anything when you are driving. Thirdly, is that famous magic carpet ride of the air suspension on a Rolls-Royce which is so smooth and comfortable, it just glides across the road.
The trim, materials and fittings make this the best we have seen on an SUV. The Cullinan’s cabin is covered in leather and you can smell the quality. It really is the highest grade you can get. Following this, you have the beautiful Piano Black wood all through the centre console and it looks beautifully sculpted and crafted to every little button. The attention to detail is incredible from the polished stainless steel, to the leather on the aircon dials, perforated leather roof lining, perforated seats and beautifully stitched door panels; everything is done to perfection. The tread plates are stunning, the buttons for the electric seats are so simple and yet so effective, it feels expensive and luxurious. There’s no doubt that the Cullinan has a class leading interior.
#1 Coach Doors
Top of our list is the coach doors. The Cullinan is the only SUV in the world with coach doors. There are fantastically inviting and in the door, you get your customary Rolls-Royce umbrella. With the suicide rear doors, it’s incredibly easy to get in and out of the car. There’s a button placed on the C pillar to close the door which saves you the hassle of manually closing the suicide door.
