The Auto Industry World Mourns the Death of Designer of the Original Porsche 911

The original designer of the Porsche 911, one of the world’s most iconic sports cars, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche sadly passed away last week at the age of 76, at his home in Salzburg. The sad news has been confirmed over the weekend.

Son of Ferry Porsche, the German designer will always be remembered for his classic automotive creation the Porsche 911, which was first seen in the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Porsche 911 was an instant hit and took the industry by storm, production started in 1964 with orders coming in from all over the world.

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche (or “Butzi” as he was known to his family), later designed the mid-engine racing car Porsche 904 (or Porsche Carrera GTS, as it was officially known). This vehicle was a pivotal race car which later saw the development of the mighty Le Mans dominating Porsche 917 in the 1970’s.

Later, he went on to establish his own industrial design company, Porsche Design, which has gone on to work on a wide range of projects as well as his famed luxury cars. These include the streetcars for the city of Vienna, industrial products, automotive goods, consumer goods and fashion items for many goods for internationally recognized clients.
