The new Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe is here!
It’s no surprise that we loved the previous generation C63 AMG coupe here at Romans International as it has been one of our best-selling models. We were massive fans of that stunning naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 engine that gave the car so much emotion and character. The noise was a revelation with its deep burble, growl, pops, bangs and crackles made by that fabulous quad exhaust that enhanced the driving experience and made every journey feel like an occasion. So… we approach this new car with apprehension, as it has so much to live up to!
On first look, the signs are very promising as the C63 coupe looks fantastic. Our initial thoughts were that it looks like a baby S-Class coupe which is a great start. The styling of the new C63 Coupe is very different from the standard C-Class coupe as the car gets a wider body including a 64mm wider front and 66mm wider rear fender. From the front you immediately notice the twin power domes on the larger bonnet, a more aggressive front bumper with black inserts, an integral front splitter, big air intakes and flared wheel arches. Further body changes include black exterior mirror housings, more aggressive side sills, unique rear bumper, boot lid spoiler, big quad exhaust tailpipes integrated into the rear valance and diffuser.
Step Inside and it’s business as usual with a similar dashboard layout, infotainment system controls and sports seats as the C63 Saloon. Customers can also opt for the performance seats which give a much lower and focused driving position. Additional interior features include a multifunctioning flat bottom steering wheel, AMG badges and various trim applications.
With regards to the powertrain, it follows in the same footsteps of the C63 Saloon with the 4.0L V8 Bi-Turbo producing 469 bhp and 479lb ft of torque in the base model and 503bhp in the S variant. This is exactly the same power output but 37lb ft more torque than the Mercedes AMG GT S. 0-62mph is dealt within 4.0 seconds in the base car and 3.9 seconds in the S edition via AMG’S seven speed Speedshift Multi Clutch Transmission. Top speed is an electronically limited 155mph although customers can specify for the Driver’s package which raises the limiter to 180mph. Overall, this performance is breathtaking bearing in mind the car weighs 1725kg which is 70kg heavier than the outgoing model thanks to it’s bigger dimensions and body strengthening measures. The noise was one of the major defining aspects of the previous C63 and you will not be left disappointed as Mercedes have developed a new exhaust flap specifically for the coupe and if this is not enough customers can opt for a performance exhaust to increase the noise even further.
This new C63 coupe is set to compete with the BMW M4 and Audi RS5 which will be one battle we can’t wait to see. The car will make it’s full debut at the Frankfurt motor show on the 15th of September and is expected to go on sale in January 2016. We certainly can’t wait to have one in stock and we sincerely hope this new version will be as successful as the previous generation.
