Porsche coaxed 315hp from the 5-cylinder turbocharged engine and then uprated the suspension, whilst also giving the RS2 the brakes, wheels and door mirrors from a 964 Turbo. This ‘RS’ formula, which stands for ‘RennSport’ (literally translating as ‘Race Sport’), has proved a great success story for Audi, taking the fight to the Mercedes AMG and BMW M-Sport divisions and in some cases out-gunning them all together. In keeping with the engine configuration of its great grandfather the new Audi RS3 Sportback also uses a turbocharged 5-pot engine, which in this iteration produces a whopping 395bhp, beating its German rivals the BMW M2 and the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 to the post.
