The Audi RS5 has always been an extremely capable car, combining blisteringly quick performance, everyday usability and sleek coupe styling. The ease of handling is a virtue of the Audi Quattro system, inspiring confidence whatever the weather.
The powerhouse upfront is a 2.9-litre V6 twin-turbocharged engine, which is shared with the RS4 Avant, producing 444 bhp, on par the previous generations 4.2-litre V8. Although there is no power increase there are other areas where the RS5 demonstrates an edge over the previous model. An advantage of dropping the engine displacement and adding forced induction means that the RS5 has a smooth power delivery and higher torque. This is achieved by the use of a torque converter in conjunction with the 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox. The smaller engine also makes for improved fuel economy, meaning the RS5 is cheaper to run whilst delivering better performance. Overall the Audi RS5 is a well-rounded coupe that offers high levels of performance offering a host of improvements over the previous generation.
