The story of Alpina began in 1962 when it’s founder Burkard Bovensiepen designed a Weber dual carburettor for the BMW 1500, which was then awarded a full BMW factory guarantee such was the quality. From then on Alpina has been a name synonymous with bespoke luxury performance variants of some of BMW’s best driving cars, taking a slightly different approach to BMW’s M Division.
Based on the BMW 3-Series, Alpina created the B3 bi-turbo, with a limited production the Touring is an undoubtedly rare car. The B3 is fast and extremely agile with each Alpina being all-wheel drive, with rear wheel steering and standard 20-inch wheels. Even with 488bhp, the B3 Touring’s drive is nothing short of astonishing even on British B-roads, with suspension that offers an unprecedented amount of comfort. The 488bhp 3L Twin-Turbo Inline-6 effortlessly accelerates the Alpina from 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds, just 0.1 seconds behind the M3 Touring.

WHAT THE JOURNALISTS SAY
- For the majority of the time the Alpina feels just as quick, even more luxurious and has a rarity value that even the M3 Touring can’t match.
- The B3 Touring earns five stars because there is arguably no other car on sale that so successfully slathers its appeal across the realms of comfort, performance, practicality, engagement.
- Handsome, quick, comfy and ultra exclusive. There's a heck of a lot to like here.
