The original BMW (E28) M5 first started production in 1985 in order to satisfy the consumer appetite for a car with sports car performance but the convenience and carrying capacity of a saloon. And so, the BMW M5 was born, it was the fastest saloon in the world when released, topping out at 147mph. 30 years on the cars 5th generation, the F10, BMW decided to commemorate this epic car in true German style.
Called the ‘30 Jahre M5’, (‘jahre’ meaning ‘years’ in German), this edition receives a 40bhp boost over the standard M5, taking the total to 592bhp. This in turn drops the 0-62mph sprint to a blisteringly quick 3.9 seconds and gives this car scarcely believable levels of acceleration for a well-appointed 2 tonne German saloon. The 30 Jahre also receives the Competition Pack, an optional extra on the standard M5, which gives the car stiffer springs, dampers, bushes, anti-roll bars and a 10mm lowered ride height. The M division has also tweaked the gearbox and steering settings to give the 30 Jahre a more direct and aggressive drive when in full M-Sport mode. Finally, bespoke Frozen Dark Silver matt paint and a subtle sprinkling of ’30 Jahre M5’ embossing and badging marks this car out as an exclusive 1 of 300 vehicle which pays a fitting tribute to a legendary motoring icon.
