The original BMW (E28) M5 first started production in 1985, in order to satisfy the consumer appetite for a car with sports car performance but the convenience and carrying capacity of a saloon. So the BMW M5 was born, it was the fastest saloon in the world when released, topping out at 147mph. Over 35 years later, with the M5 in its 6th generation, BMW have produced their most powerful and fastest version to date, the F90.
This particular iteration of the F90 has had the āCompetitionā treatment, giving a power increase and uprated suspension in order to further improve vehicle handling dynamics. The 4.4L twin-turbo V8 is now producing north of 600bhp and when fed through the 8-speed M steptronic box to the latest xDrive four-wheel drive system the performance is astounding. 0-62mph is dealt with in just 3.3 seconds, a scarcely believable time for a four-door car, weighing in at 2 tonnes. The combination of styling, drivetrain and technology this car offers puts it firmly in the mix for a claim on best performance saloon car on the market.
