The Roma has been called “the cleanest-looking Ferrari for a generation” - and for good reason. The sleek curves running from the front arches to the rear lights are unmistakably Ferrari, while bringing a smoother and cleaner look than previous models such as the Portofino on which it’s based. Ferrari have done away with the convertible hard-top roof of the Portofino and stuck with a coupe body – removing any sharp lines and joins and adding to this car’s sleek design. The looks, however, are not the only thing that has been updated for the Roma. It has retained the 3.9L Twin-turbo V8 from its predecessor, but with 20bhp extra, as well as a refreshed exhaust system for a more refined sound.
Instead of using the Portofino’s 7-speed DCT gearbox, the Roma uses a variant of the SF90’s 8-speed DCT allowing for quicker acceleration and at higher gears, better efficiency and economy when cruising. The Roma achieves 0-62mph in a staggering 3.4 seconds and, what is even more impressive, is its 0-120mph time of just 9.3 seconds which has shaved 1.5 seconds off the Portofino’s time.
The interior of the Roma is where the changes are most noticeable, while still maintaining the sleek lines from the exterior and sporting a more driver-focused cabin. The centre console seemingly engulfs the driver, wrapping all the way around the dash and joining with the door cards. Technology also hasn’t been forgotten about in this cabin – traditional instrument dials have been replaced with a digital dash, the centre console boasts a newly-designed screen with navigation and there is an optional passenger display on offer.
