Model Overview

The Ferrari SF90 Stradale is a truly ground-breaking car for the legendary Italian car marque. Picking up from where the LaFerrari left off but in a very different direction. With this new direction comes many firsts, the first Ferrari that can start and move in silence, the most powerful road-going Ferrari ever and the fastest around the Fiorano test track. This really is the most radical and different chapter we have ever seen in Ferrari’s history, so let us take a brief look at what has changed and what Ferrari magic has been distilled and kept.

The biggest advancement here is the powertrain, now comprising of a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 and no less than 3 electric motors producing a combined output of 986bhp (1000hp). Whilst the bulk of the power comes from the V8 the electric motors contribute a healthy hot-hatched sized 217bhp. With one e-motor mounted to the engine and gearbox assisting with smoothing the torque curve and charging the battery, whilst the other two are located independently on the front two wheels making this futuristic missile of a car 4-wheel-drive. This whole system is controlled by the new eManettino haptic switch on the steering wheel opposite its analogue counterpart. The system has four modes (eDrive, Hybrid, Performance, Qualify), ranging from a silent fully electric mode good for 15 miles through to a hot-lap mode deploying the full nigh on 1000hp through all 4 wheels.

This particular example is the Assetto Fiorano spec, which is the more track focused variant of the SF90. This specification features upgrades such as the Multimatic Shock Absorbers, Full Titanium Exhaust and various other carbon fibre and titanium components. Carbon fibre can be found on the door panels and underbody with titanium being used for the springs and exhaust system. These upgraded components result in a weight-saving of 30 kg over the standard SF90 Stradale. A high downforce carbon fibre rear spoiler is also added with the Asseto Fiorano package, which generates an additional 390 kg of downforce at 155mph.

Exterior styling is futuristic whilst typically Ferrari with new C-shaped Matrix LED headlights in the front and the Shut-Off Gurney rear dropping spoiler altering the cars aerodynamics as needed in the rear. Inside we are treated to an all-new interior with many more touchscreen haptic buttons and a 16” HD display instrument binnacle. Overall, the SF90 gives us a glimpse into the future, offering hypercar performance for supercar money and presenting a masterclass in the synergy between petrol and electric power. The SF90 sits in a class of one at this price point and Ferrari waits for some of its rivals to play catch up.

WHAT THE JOURNALISTS SAY

  • The steering is super-light and super-precise, allowing me to put the nose pretty much exactly where I want in any corner. But the joy comes purely from the speed it can carry into and through the turn, and from the severity with which it stops for those corners.
    EVO
  • The eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox is faultless on circuit; upshifts bang in so rapidly there's scarcely any let up in the accelerative force while downshifts drop with a quick flare of revs the instant I tug the paddle.
    Pistonheads
  • It’s agile and balanced, stable and true to a fast cornering line, and there’s huge traction to match the equally huge power.
