Model Overview
- 1 of 2,000 Cars Worldwide - Believed to Be 1 of 450 in the UK - Highly Collectible - 2 Owners From New - Low Mileage The limited-edition John Cooper Works GP is a step up from the Cooper S, sitting at 10mm lower on stiffer springs and more aggressive damping. It’s a car that has had a heavy revision by BMW in order to maximise performance by weight saving and specific tuning. 50kg has been shaved off, a large part of this being the disappearance of the rear seats. In place sits a strut brace which drastically increases the rigidity of the chassis, which really shows its worth when the JCW GP dances around effortlessly on track. Engine modifications include a faster spinning supercharger, tuned intake system, and a more freely flowing exhaust system. At both lower and higher speeds, the GP feels extremely well poised due to the firm suspension and stiff chassis. With the rear seats removed and less sound-deadening, you can hear the air being drawn into the engine and the waste gases leaving the exhaust with the odd pop and crackle, adding to the sense of occasion. The mk1 John Cooper Works GP is limited to 2,000 examples worldwide, with sources claiming that around 450 were to make it to the UK market in 2006 – this is more than just a well handling hot hatch.
