The 992 Porsche 911 Carrera represents the next step in the evolution of this iconic legendary sports car. To many in the automotive world the Porsche 911 has for the last 50 years represented a benchmark for what the sports car of its day should be. Now in itās 8th generation, still defiantly rear engined and unmistakably Germanic, what makes the new 992 different? Firstly, the exterior styling has been significantly modernised, from the streamlined auto-deploying door handles to the brake light included in the rear engine grille, everything has been meticulously thought through.
Power is up 30bhp for the 4S to 444bhp, coincidentally the same amount as the 991.2 GTS, now running through an 8-Speed PDK and launching the car from 0-60mph in just 3.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 190mph. The interior receives a thorough remodelling with an analogue rev counter flanked by 7ā TFT screens and a beautifully integrated centre console. The dainty gear lever, knurled switches and high-quality materials used throughout exude luxury and class, making the cabin a really special place to be. More features included as standard such as cruise control, ParkAssist and Keyless-Go bring the 992 up to speed with its competitorsā trim levels.
Tweaks and adjustments to just about every component of the steering, suspension and car calibration have rendered a car which feels more planted, sure footed and capable than ever before. Everything from the brakes to the power delivery feels somehow more cohesive and together, in ways you didnāt realise were lacking. Overall the new 992 picks up exactly where it left off, evolving the 911 further again, including more features as standard and pushing the envelope for how much performance and sheer driving pleasure can be extracted from four wheels.

WHAT THE JOURNALISTS SAY
- You can take slightly larger liberties exiting a corner with the 4S, without robbing the 911 of any of it's appeal. Normally I'd champion the rear wheel drive model but the 4S makes a hugely compelling argument, particularly as an everyday machine.
- The new 992 is a ridiculously fast and, in 4WD form, an incredibly stable 911, with the kind of integrity to its feel that suggests you could lap one for hours and its only complaint would be when it ran out of fuel.
- The fact you can use it every day, in comfort, with space and a good hifi, with no compromise and do miles efficiently, easily and simply while enjoying every single interaction with the car and getting this deep, deep satisfaction from it. Its everydayness is its superpower.
