Over 20 years ago, BMW produced what was regarded as a retro-inspired roadster for modern times and whilst the Z8 famously featured as a Bond car in 'The World Is Not Enough' it perhaps wasn't universally praised for it's driving dynamics. When it finished production in 2002, BMW decided to collaborate with Alpina, who officially specialize in crafting high-performance luxury versions of BMWs, for one last attempt to improve the car. Alpina reimagined the Z8 as a more refined grand tourer, prioritizing comfort and luxury. The most significant changes included replacing the 6-speed manual transmission with a 5-speed automatic and equipping it with a completely different engine that delivered slightly less power. Softer leather and unique Alpina touches on the interior enhance the cabin whilst the distinctive 20-inch alloys give the car a heap of extra road presence.
Limited to just 555 examples worldwide and with 450 of those supplied to the US market, Alpina Roadster's are incredibly rare, especially in the UK. With collector's appreciating the timeless design and old-school engine, the Z8 has proven to be a solid investment, with values consistently rising and this more special Alpina Roadster V8 variant adding another layer of rarity and desirability.

WHAT THE JOURNALISTS SAY
- Alpina Roadsters were rare as hens' teeth. It has a much more relaxed character than the standard car. The auto works beautifully and the ride is good.
- The timelessness of its design inside and out and its fine build quality are its strongest attributes when you’re talking about future values.
- The driving pleasure remains; the Z8 has not been softened, but rather made more harmonious, more relaxed, more confident. It’s a nice gesture between friends that BMW has allowed ALPINA to move into this niche.
