The Ferrari 430 Scuderia is the lightweight variant of the highly praised F430 and the successor to the legendary 360 Challenge Stradale. When it was unveiled by F1 legend Michael Schumacher in 2007, the 430 Scuderia went into direct competition with other hardcore cars of the time, such as the Porsche GT2 and the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera. The formula for these more track focused variants is quite simple, reduce weight, increase power and tweak suspension; and that is exactly what Ferrari did. Weight was slashed by 100kg with the extensive use of carbon fibre, deletion of any sound deadening, removal of floor mats and even a polycarbonate rear window was put in place to decrease weight. Power was increased through the use of a more efficient air intake and exhaust manifolds. Coupled with a higher compression ratio, power was increased to over 500bhp which in turn upped the 0-60mph time to 3.5 seconds with a top speed nudging 200mph.
Other highlight features include the standard Carbon Ceramic Brakes, a redesigned and more aerodynamically efficient bodywork and raised twin exit exhaust tailpipes. Overall the 430 Scuderia is more than just the sum of its parts, yielding an accurate and highly controllable driving experience, which had been seldom seen in a road-going supercar of this calibre at the time and assures its place as one of the greats.
