The Mercedes AMG GT S was built to replace the iconic SLS AMG but is aimed at a new market segment by being smaller, less expensive and ultimately a more usable and fun car to drive. For decades Porsche has dominated the high-performance coupe market with the 911, but the AMG GT S is now a very worthy rival and with it's muscle car looks and roaring V8 engine the GT S has a different sort of appeal.
Being the facelift model, this new AMG GT S features several subtle changes bringing it up to date with the its bigger brothers the GT C and the GT R. The most noticeable change is of course the ‘Panamericana’ grille now common across most of the performance AMG range, add to this a wider front bumper incorporating active air vents and a welcome power increase to 515hp and the GT S is looking meaner than ever.
This was the second car in the company’s history developed completely in house by Mercedes-AMG, giving it fantastic pedigree and extreme levels of performance. Styling of the AMG GT is slightly less retro than the SLS with curvier lines and bulges and a sweeping fast back design. A spaceframe chassis and body made primarily of aluminium alloy help to keep weight to a minimum and make the most of the spectacular front mid-mounted twin turbo 4.0L V8. Step inside the AMG GT to find everything you would expect from a Mercedes interior, fantastic build quality, premium materials and an array of the latest gadgets and gizmos. Overall this car represents truly excellent value for money, taking the fight to Porsche and giving you another German super coupe to choose from, which is as competent on the road as it is on the track.
