The 992 GT3 RS is a car that needs no introduction. Just one look is enough to understand this car’s significance. It’s outrageous swan neck rear wing and detailed aero elements allow 860kg of downforce at 117mph, doubling its predecessor, the 991.2. Paired with its 4.0 litre naturally aspirated flat six engine its full potential is unleashed, reaching a top speed of 184mph with 518bhp, which is evidence enough for it to claim its well-deserved spot alongside the all-time greats.
Lightweight construction and Porsche’s incredible attention to detail creates an unmatched handling capability, with notable and unique performance upgrades to the front suspension, making it the first of its kind in this 911 series. The 992’s airflow management has been optimized, alongside a drag-reduction system comparable to those in Formula 1 Race Cars, which activates above 62mph and 95% throttle and can also be activated via the DRS button on the steering wheel. Its simple interior layout pays homage to past iterations of Porsche’s classic sports car. Yet, it does not come without its own unique characteristics such as extra steering controls for adjusting the adaptive dampers and compression levels.
The RS’s cornering ability is unrivalled by any other thanks to Porsche’s focus on weight-saving through its carbon fibre details and roll cage replacing what was once rear seats. However, it doesn’t stop there as Porsche also offers an optional set of lightweight bucket seats which not only reduce mass but increase support too. Setting a Nürburgring time of 6:49.4 seconds (8 seconds faster than the 918 Spyder) it’s obvious to all how mind-blowing this car truly is. The pressure was on for Porsche to fulfill the mile high expectations set for this highly anticipated car. Not only did they do this flawlessly, they did it with ease.
