The 911 Carrera 4 GTS is renowned as one of the best driving models in the range with its perfect blend of comfort and performance. It sits in between a regular Carrera S and the full blooded 911 GT3. Porsche has taken a regular Carrera S and gone to town on the performance upgrades, including; increased power by 30bhp over the Carrera S, centrally locking alloy wheels, Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with sports chassis (lowering the ride height by 20mm) and Sport Chrono which incorporates dynamic engine mounts and switchable sports exhaust system. Also, the addition of the number 4 just before the GTS badge denotes the number of driven wheels, giving the Carrera 4 GTS superior traction, acceleration and all-weather drivability.
This is the Gen II 991 Carrera GTS and like the rest of the new 911 range, it receives a welcome series of updates over the first generation including a new 3.0L turbocharged flat-six engine, various exterior styling upgrades including new front and rear bumpers, new door handles, redesigned air intakes at the rear to improve airflow, 3D taillights, which are smoked on the GTS, and the same vertically slatted engine cover as the rest of the line-up.
Step inside and the styling changes are more significant with a new steering wheel inspired by the 918 Spyder hypercar and an updated multimedia infotainment system. The new touchscreen is standard across the range and easier to navigate than the outgoing set up. The system is compatible with Apple CarPlay, so iPhone users will be able to mirror their phone to the touchscreen and stay connected on the move. Overall the GTS is for the enthusiast who would like a 911 GT3 but is not prepared to put up with the on-road compromises inherent with such a track orientated car and it fulfils this position perfectly in true Porsche style.
